As of right now, Cost Effective Design is ranked #11 for "Toronto Website Design" in Google. I'm very happy to see such an improvement with such little effort on my part. I won't get my hopes up because the SERPs jump around a bit, but I should stay within the first few pages. #1 here I come!

BOTW is one of the Internet's top directories. These days, you can't expect to get much if any traffic from website directories. But we're not looking for direct traffic - we want inbound links with high Page Rank. Anyway, I came across a coupon for 40% off: "LPROCKS"

Google Introducing Universal Search

The big news last week was Google's announcement that they'll be rolling out something called "Universal Search". This means that Google will start integrating search results from their other networks (news, images, video, etc.) with the standard search results. Look as though achieving a top 10 ranking just got a little more difficult.

SEO Challenge

After taking over the search results for "Windsor Website Design" and the related terms, I've decided that I'd like to take on something more challenging - "Toronto Website Design". Right now I'm ranked #37. I could do a little better but I'd probably dilute my Windsor & London positions, so I'll just take it slow and provide weekly progress updates. Mark my word though - I will crack the top 5 within a year.

Don't Spread Your PageRank Thin

Unfortunately Google see yoursite.com and www.yoursite.com as two different websites. Make sure that any PageRank assigned to yoursite.com passes through to www.yoursite.com. This should give your website higher rankings in the search engines. It's just smart search engine optimization practice. To do this, add the following lines to you .htaccess file:

RewriteEngine on
rewritecond %{http_host} ^domain.com [nc]
rewriterule ^(.*)$ http://www.domain.com/$1 [r=301,nc]

I've previously written an article regarding blogging and SEO. Now I guess it's time to practice what I preach. I figured that since I read website design and SEO newsletters as well as troll the related forums, I might as well tell the world about the small tidbits of information I've come across.
