Richmond Hill is one of the many
cities and towns that make up the
Greater Toronto Area, and as per the
2006 census report, has a population of
162,704. Just as with virtually
every other town and city of the Greater
Toronto Area, Richmond Hill has
experienced a huge influx of foreign
immigrants that have accounted for its
phenomenal rate of growth - four times
the Canadian average.
Richmond Hill is recognized as an
upper middle class enclave with a median
family income of $102,400, ranking it
among the highest in Canada. It was the
communist Chinese takeover of Hong Kong
in the mid 90s that spurned the most
recent changes in Richmond Hill.
Wealthy residents of Hong Kong, fearing
the Chinese take over, found it much
easier to get a visa to Canada rather
than the U.S., and collectively chose
Richmond Hill as their primary
destination.
