The Greater Toronto
Area (GTA) is the most populated
metropolitan area in all of Canada and
the eight largest in all of North
America with nearly six million
residents and counting. The GTA
is one of North America’s fastest
growing urban areas with a work force of
approximately one hundred thousand
companies generating a gross domestic
product of three hundred and sixty
billion Canadian dollars a year. The
GTA is made up of the City of
Metropolitan Toronto (capital of
Ontario) and the regional municipalities
of Durham, Halton, Peel and York.
The GTA region’s proximity to the
United States is supported by a highly
integrated transportation infrastructure
including seven major highways and two
international railways connecting it to
the rest of the country and to the U.S.
Pearson International Airport located
just outside Toronto is the World’s
ninth largest airport in terms of
aircraft movement and along with other
GTA regional airports offer
excellent executive commuter air
services. |

The GTA is also served
by a network of public transportation
authorities. GO Transit, a regional
transportation authority connects Toronto’s
suburban areas to its downtown. A number of
local agencies provide public transportation
services within their jurisdictions. These
include the Toronto Transit Commission, York
Region Transit, Durham Transit, Mississauga
Transit, Oakville Transit, Brampton Transit and
Burlington Transit.
The GTA is the
undisputed business and manufacturing capital of
Canada with a skilled and productive workforce,
a suburb telecommunications system and a
portfolio of prime corporate spaces. The GTA
is also home to Canada’s senior equities market,
the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX), located in
downtown Toronto connecting Canada’s businesses
and investors to the rest of the World. The
GTA is also home to headquarters of many of
Canada’s top companies as well as to thousands
of small and midsized businesses.
Arguably the most diverse
region in all of the World, the GTA is
made up of more than 100 cultures which come
together to produce some of the Worlds most
unique cuisines, entertainment, and shopping
experiences making the GTA, Canada’s hub
for national and international travel and
tourism.
